The Cheshire Cycleway

The Cheshire Cycleway is a popular 176-mile circular cycling route that takes riders through some of the most scenic and historic parts of the county. The route is divided into eight sections, each with its own unique features and attractions.

The Cheshire Cycleway starts and ends at Chester, a historic city known for its Roman walls, medieval architecture, and stunning cathedral. From Chester, the route heads south through the picturesque villages of Eccleston, Farndon, and Malpas, before crossing into Wales and heading towards Wrexham.

After passing through the Welsh border town of Holt, the route returns to Cheshire, heading towards the market town of Nantwich. From there, the route heads north through the rolling countryside of the Cheshire Plains, passing through the villages of Tarporley and Frodsham, and skirting around the city of Chester.

The route then heads east towards the scenic Delamere Forest, a popular destination for mountain bikers and leisure cyclists alike. From there, the route passes through the charming village of Kelsall and the historic city of Northwich, before heading towards the River Weaver and the industrial town of Winsford.

After passing through the town of Middlewich, the Cheshire Cycleway heads towards the leafy village of Prestbury, before crossing over the Macclesfield Canal and heading towards the town of Knutsford. The route then passes through the pretty village of Alderley Edge, before heading towards the rolling hills of the Peckforton Range and the village of Tarvin.

Finally, the Cheshire Cycleway heads back towards Chester, passing through the villages of Tattenhall and Christleton before returning to the city. Throughout the route, cyclists will encounter a range of terrain, from flat plains to challenging climbs, as well as a wealth of historic landmarks, including castles, stately homes, and ancient churches.
